I am writing a series where I try and answer most commonly asked questions I come across on various platforms (Quora etc). This one is about whether or not you should step into Orthodontics.
The thing with Orthodontics---whether you practice it or you are studying it or you are in any way remotely related to it, IS that it evolves. And it evolves quite quickly. So, unless you are ready to be a student/keen learner all your life please do not step into it. It is like the noment you will master one technique, another cool device/software/appliance will be launched and your previous experience almost an expertise will be forced to be flown outta window. Leaving you at square one. This will happen quite often.
You need a bit of delusion, defiance, humbleness and ability to conform to fit into this maize we call Orthodontics.
Absolutely anything can change your perception. Remember! It takes only one patient, one case to tame your pompous self.
If you are somebody who doesn't like being corrected very often please do not step into Orthodontics.
If you are somebody who was not into Physics then please retreat.
If you are somebody who is not resilient enough.... the quality akin to that of a phoenix then please consider other fields in dentistry.
If you are somebody who likes a step by step guide or a cookbook for everything then Orthodontics is Not for you. Because every case is different. Much like our fingerprints.
Hope this helps!
